The Seymour Johnson AFB-based 4th FW flys the F-15E Strike Eagle and was the first Wing in the operational USAF to receive the aircraft. The wing mission is to train future F-15E crews and provide world-wide deep interdiction and air-to-air capability.

The 4th TS is manned by crews from the two Fighter Training Units (FTU's), the 333rd and 334th. They develope and teach most academics to the students as well as flying training missions with the two FTU's.

When the F-15E FTU closed at Luke AFB all assets were sent to Seymour Johnson AFB and the 333rd was added to the wing as the F-15E Fighter Training Unit. The squadron was most recently the A-10 FTU at Davis Monthan AFB.

A mission ready squadron in the 4th until 1995, the mission of the Eagles was changed to training new crews to help keep up with demand. The Eagles were the 3rd unit to receive F-15E's and thus missed Desert Storm by a month.
